Star Trek’s New Generation

Thursday night, we saw the new Star Trek movie. I was blown away by how awesome it was! The action was great, and I loved the humor in the movie. There were too many lines to count that were inserted in perfect moments that made the scenes all the better. When Bones meets Spock and says “I like this guy,” it was hilarious to know that he cursed that Spock was pointy-eared and green-blooded in the series. This film had plenty of original funny lines, and classic lines you were waiting to hear as a Star Trek fan that caused cheers and applause.
It was very cool to see how this crew came to be in charge of the ship all in each of their own little happenstances. The reasoning why they came about to be in the roles they were in was particularly interesting since it had to do with Nero’s presence. Again, another thing in movies and shows that I am a big fan of and very interested in. I didn’t quite get the red matter though. That seemed a bit too odd, and stretched it a bit for even a sci-fi movie. It would have made more sense to me if it was dark matter.
The development of the main villain, Nero, was a bit lacking to me. His reason for being the villain wasn’t clear until well into the second half of the movie. I think we could have been given more to the reasoning without fully giving it away earlier in the movie, so we don’t sit and wonder why he is evil for so long. All we knew was that he was after Spock. I think the main reason why he was the villain could have been given to us and surprised us later with the information that Spock was involved.
The development of the friendship between Kirk and Spock was a nice touch to the movie. There is a scene in the movie that deals with their friendship that is very touching and heartwarming when you are aware of their interactions from the original movies and the series.
Overall, I think the movie was spectacular and gave this Star Trek fan and the fan I saw it with a great thrill ride and good entertainment. If you’re a Star Trek fan, go see it! If you’re not a Star Trek fan, go see it! It is definitely worth seeing either way.

Of all of the movies I’ve seen so far this year, the Star Trek movie has been my favorite.
Most of the characters are very likable, and it made me curious about the original series. I especially liked the character of Captain Kirk. He had a “bad boy” role, but was a really honorable/down-to-earth person, someone who anyone would like to emulate/become friends with. I’d imagine people would like this version of Captain Kirk more than the original.
The acting was great, the lines were good, the special effects and scenery fit, and the story was creative.
I agree that the only lacking part was the main bad guy. It seemed like there needed to be “some” bad guy, so he was what the writers came up with.
