Dinner at Maggiano’s in Naperville

A few days ago, we went out with a few of our friends for a birthday dinner at Maggiano’s in Naperville, Illinois. I admit, I am not a huge spender. When we go out to eat, it is usually some place where we won’t be spending a lot of cash, and choose items on the menu that are not very expensive. We even make sure not to eat our whole meal so we can take some home for lunch the following day.

The menu was a little intimidating, price-wise. Like I said, I’m not a huge spender. I was originally thinking of passing on appetizers, but the spinach stuffed mushrooms were highly recommended by my parents. In fact, I was the only person who ordered appetizers! They turned out to be very delicious. Eating spinach makes me feel very healthy, and I have a laugh to myself when I do as I think about Popeye and how his arms inflate after a can of spinach.

Spinach once again crept its way onto my plate as one of the specials for the night was the Tortalacci; a bigger tortellini pasta with ham, tomatoes, spinach, and mushrooms in a white sauce. I overheard the waitress talking about the specials as I was glancing over the menu and when the word “tortellini” was mentioned, I knew what I was going to be having. The noodles were very tender and almost melted at the slightest hint of pressure. The white sauce was deliciously creamy, and better than any other white sauce I ever had.

Dimmed lights and the background music made the dining experience even better. You definitely got the feel of a real italian restaurant as the guests really seemed to enjoy being there and you could hear some of their bellowing laughs. They even let us bring in our own birthday cake for our friend, and didn’t mind lighting the candles for us. It wasn’t terribly hard on my wallet either. I’m looking forward to eating there again, and enjoying the leftovers!
