Angels and Demons

I have to say I wasn’t too terribly impressed with Angels and Demons, although I did like The DaVinci Code. Maybe I just feel like I’ve already seen this movie. I love movies that have a twist to them, especially movies that involve a conspiracy, and doubly so if it involve the Catholic Church. That’s just my contempt for organized religion coming out.
Ever since I was young and saw Big, I have been a fan of Tom Hanks. This wasn’t one of my favorite movies, but I do think he still played Robert Langdon like the character should be portrayed. Even though he did a great job, I think neither Angels and Demons nor The Davinci Code deserved a legend like Tom Hanks. I hope he finds a role soon that is much more worthy of his stardom.
One thing that kept me interested in the film was the concept of anti-matter being created by the Large Hadron Collider at the beginning of the movie. Anytime a movie uses an application of science that might not be too far from discovery, I cannot be torn away from the movie no matter how weak I feel the film may be.
The mystery in Angels and Demons did throw me off most of the way until the last thirty minutes, where one key scene made me think differently about one of the characters. The story of how they go from church to church in search of the murderer had me baffled. If somebody wanted to accomplish something as devastating as the Illuminati wanted to, they wouldn’t leave a trail to be followed that could eventually prevent them from achieving their goal. I’m sure that was one of the intentions of the movie which would clear up the whole reason for the Illuminati. All in all, Angels and Demons was a decent movie, but nothing spectacular, and not worth the $8-12 that you would have to spend at most theaters.

I did NOT enjoy this movie, but I think it was due to some personal issues. I HATE when authors pull endings and discovered nemesis identities out of nowhere for the sake of a twist. Trying to lead you in the complete opposite direction and then ending with a “Ha ha! It was him all along!” thing. I know we don’t want to be bored, but there had ought to be some clues that things are not as they seem. Maybe I missed them?
Sadly, I did enjoy most of the movie up until the end. Putting aside the illogical moves of the villain (as Brian mentioned), it’s kind of fun watching someone work out the clues. I also thought the acting was fairly decent, and some of the comic relief scenes were cute.
The movie had potential, but the ending had me reeling.
